September 1, 2010 - INSPIRATION

September already? School started and its now in the upper 80's, not the high 90's! Windows down in the car again. Been inspired a lot lately. Here is a list of some people and things that have helped me...

My Church - Our pastor's name is Smiley. He has a true gift to teach the Bible.

The ASC - I nerd out on their magazine...cover to cover.

Oswald Chambers - Daily inspiration and butt kicking.

Hobgoods - Two of the best people I have ever met. Inspired and helped me beyond words.

Ty Williams - His work encourages and makes me smile. Everytime.

Dane - Pushed me more creatively than anyone ever has. Also, now I don't care at all what anyone else thinks.

Nate - One of my best friend and visual mastermind. He's going to be a dad soon...

Devour - Currently my favorite web page.

Hamburger Eyes - Best photos ever?

August 20, 2010 - FRIDAY NIGHT RAMBLINGS

Hello. Things are great. God is good. Finished up a shoot for Quiksilver in Mexico for Dane's New Boardshorts. Great shoot. Shot film. Ate tacos. Back at home now with my family. Nothing too crazy. Sending away the master DVD of Thrills, Spills, and What Not for duplication this week. Wow, actually that is crazy. I am blessed.

Hoping to work on some TWLOHA video awesomeness this week. Then New York for a day to color the Quik film we just shot, hope I didn't mess up. Always scared until I hear back from the lab that all is ok.

Listening a lot to this guy. And I caught 5 bass tonight in a small golf course pond.

Love you all.

July 12, 2010 - NEW STUDIO!

Flesh Profits Nothing has moved into a real office. I can't thank Tory enough for allowing me to camp out in the attic of the Skate Station, but I am soooo excited about the new place. Greg Dettra and myself will be creating a manly workspace. T-Shirts, Posters, and Films! Currently thinking of a name of the house. Hopefully something cool and witty. If you have any ideas, let us know.

Here is FPN's new studio. My goal is to spend as little time as possible in there, want to be out telling stories and shooting film.

Here is the entire 13 minutes of our short stories from Haiti, 35 Seconds. Please feel free to post and share. Such a honor to tell these stories.

June 24, 2010 - LOTS TO SAY

Ok, first off. I am very sad but extremely excited to announce Eric T. Hires is moving to San Diego. He accepted a position at Point Loma University working on their video story telling goodness. Eric is one of my best friends and sidekick. This doesn't mean he is not apart of FPN anymore...maybe a West Coast Division in the works?? He leaves in a couple weeks. I know his lady friend is syking right now!

35 Seconds and Nate's art installation will be on display at the Contemporary Art Center of Virginia in Virginia Beach starting soon. Details to come.

Thrills, Spills and What Not is officially in the can! We just got home from Nicaragua and the film will be at the studio tomorrow. Awww yeah. Off to Ventura in a couple weeks to work on the final edit.

Last road trip did suffer a loss. My Aaton LTR54. Loaded the magazine, attached it, battery in, and pressed the trigger...NOTHING. Checked everything out and heard parts clanking around in camera body. Awesome. My heart sunk. BUSTED BY THE AIRLINES. It was packed good, like always, in my pelican. Soooo glad I brought the Bolex as a back-up. But we weren't able to shoot 2,400ft of 16mm, because they were 400ft rolls. Praise Jesus we had enough 100ft rolls to cover the trip. God is good. Insurance is covering the camera. Sounds like the dudes at Du-All in NYC are going to take care of it. Oh well, its not going with me when I die.

Also, Landon Donovan...I owe you a slurpee.

May 25, 2010 - FRIENDS ARE GOOD

I still write everything in notebooks. I can't type ideas. Starting a conference call for TWLOHA in a few minutes. Its very rare when you get to talk about visual ideas that make a difference with a group a friends. Just thinking about how great that is right now. God has blessed me with amazing creative friends. Just this morning Nate Lewis helped hash out ideas for a video shoot as we planned the 35 Seconds premiere. Greg Dettra is helping out with tee's for the event. Aaron Bromirski is designing all the layout and posters. Friends are good. These are just a few of the amazing folks in the creative community I have the honor to call friends. Jamie T always says we are supposed to "do life together." That is true and healthy. Let's encourage each other...its not a competition (I sometimes make it one, forgive me).

Side note, Nate went to a art thing with Victoria Fu, her film work is fantastic. This is one of her 16mm films...

May 18, 2010 - GUATEMALA = SWEATING & NO SURFING

Ventured to Central America in search of the last little segment for Thrills, Spills and What Not (the Dane film). Instead we scored 20ft close outs, pool time, black sand hot as crap beaches, broken safes with our passports inside, Latin Dane super fans, and 2 decent waves on film. Lesson learned and never go to Guatemala on a surf trip. Never. You win some, you lose some. That is what makes it great and keeps us laughing.

I was able to go on the road with the TWLOHA UChapter Tour. Great spending some time with dudes in a van and more great telling the stories of some college folks. Denny wrote a great blog about being on the road.

Here is the first of three videos from tour...

The van crew, love these dudes...

April 16, 2010 - DAYTONA BEACH IS BETTER AT NIGHT?

Working on a short movie directed by Trey Edwards and Ty Williams. These guys are visual heros. Plus, Trey heads up this little clubhouse. Can't tell you what the mini-project is about, but we hope its going to be awesome to the eye. Here is a behind the scenes photo, only in Daytona....

April 8, 2010 - DIGITAL IS OK

So, there is a lot going on with digital video technology. Why we are still very much film people, we understand its not always realistic to shoot film. I'm not a techy blog nerd, but I have to admit...I am drinking the DSRL kool-aid. Eric and I are both shooting the Canon 7D. For me, it has made digital fun again.

There are a lot of blogs, forums and junk going on as well as testing the DSRL's against 35mm film. Which, for the record I think is stupid, but have been surprised by the results.

Here's some reasons I like the Canons...

1. Lenses. You can use whatever you want. I use old weird Nikon primes and dream about hanging out with Carl Zeiss one day.

2. Its small. People don't feel uncomfortable around it. Plus you can dress it up with matte boxes, follow focuses, airplane wings, monitors, whatever. Put it anywhere you want. Doesn't take up camera bag room.

3. Price. Come on now, it almost seems unfair. For what you get, its amazing. The RED folks are not excited about this.

4. Quality. I have been extremely pleased with the picture quality from the 7D and 5D. Best digital camera I have ever used. Great in low light.

5. Fun. Again, its made digital fun for me again. Whether is all rigged up for a commercial shoot or messing around with my kids.

We shot this for Baron Wells using the 7D, artificial light.

Ok, this was my tech blog for the year. Let's get one thing straight still...film still rules. Also, please don't say you are filming when shooting video. Thanks.

March 27, 2010 - DANE AND DAMION

I have to be honest...I had a hard time believing that Dane asked me to work on a film with him. Every trip got more and more real. Its a blessing, a dream. Over the last year or so we have been working on a side project together, I am so excited to say the official teaser is up on Marine Layer. Dane said he didn't like surf video teasers and I didn't either, so we were thinking of ideas to make it different. I suggested showing zero surfing. The idea stuck. Thanks to Yani Ladori, his true vision is unmatched.

In other web news, Damion Suomi's "Mustard Seed" music video premiered on MySpace Videos yesterday. I met Damion through TWLOHA and he's an amazing dude. We shot this on Super 16mm film in a orange grove near the space shuttle. His dad was in the music video and a huge part of Damion's life. Unfortunately his dad passed away right after shooting. So, this was very, very special for Damion.

March 22, 2010 - HAITI PROJECT UPDATE

My great friend Nate Lewis joined Eric and I in Haiti. He's a crazy talent artist and wasn't really sure what he would do in Haiti, but as always his wheels were turning. He collected debris and stuff from the quake. Nate is working on a art installment from the debris and his sketches. Really, really excited about this because he showed me some samples today.

Check it here:

Again, Flagler College 35 Seconds screening tomorrow evening at

PS - This looks amazing and confirms my man crush on Spike Jonze. I'm OK with saying that

March 20, 2010 - NEW NEWS

Updated the site a little bit. Got a new demo reel, news/blog, and other stuff. The weather is finally beautiful in Florida and its the first day of Spring. Great day to be alive.

The Dane Reynolds Film Project Goodness is picking up steam. We are releasing the teaser soon, and I know I keep saying that, but Marine Layer is getting so many views it keeps shutting down the server. The web guys and nerds are switching over the server this week so we don't shut down the World Wide Interweb. (That wouldn't really happen.)

We are screening the Haiti short documentary, 35 Seconds at Flagler College this Tuesday the 23rd at 5pm in K300. Love to have you come watch it. I made a big call this week after working on the post side of things...NO MUSIC. I have been nerding out of the Coen Brothers and the fact that there is no audio in No Country For Old Men. So far so good, and this tool is amazing...Zoom H4n.

Currently my favorite photographer...Ryan Heywood

Amazing new site...Ty Williams

I took a photo of Ty this week for his upcoming show in the Big Apple...
